Imprisoner returns with a second album, ‘How the End Might Roar’.

What was first intended as a black metal album turned into a strange hybrid of black, ritualistic ambiance, with songs being passed back and forth between Flavius Ion and Par Bostrom (who is a guest on all seven tracks on the album), for several months.

While the previous release had a more poignant feel, ‘How the End Might Roar’ is centered around themes both musicians love very much: winter nights and their ethereal uncertainty.

❤️My original plan was to go through and buy individual tracks like I do with most compilation albums, but honestly there are just so many good ones that I wound up buying the whole thing. More than simple drones (though there are plenty of those, too), this album collects many of the best and most innovative dark ambient artists in one place, including many who are new to me. Meticulously builds a lovely sense of melancholy tinged with a slightly archaic feel. I see an elderly woman fallen on hard times looking out through tattered curtains at a world covered in white, weeping for all she has lost. Or pale sunlight inexorably eroding intricately beautiful snowflakes that finish with an almost audible sigh of anguish.
