More than simple drones (though there are plenty of those, too), this album collects many of the best and most innovative dark ambient artists in one place, including many who are new to me. A must-have for any dark ambient fan's collection.

Meticulously builds a lovely sense of melancholy tinged with a slightly archaic feel. I see an elderly woman fallen on hard times looking out through tattered curtains at a world covered in white, weeping for all she has lost. Or pale sunlight inexorably eroding intricately beautiful snowflakes that finish with an almost audible sigh of anguish. All that we cherish will be lost in time, which makes it all the more important that we care deeply for them while we can.
